Alesha Monteiro
Parole Consultant
Alesha Monteiro is a social justice advocate, Executive Director of Just Advocate, and Statewide Policy Coordinator of Californians United for a Responsible Budget. Alesha also served as an Advocay Fellow for the Essie Justice Group, a black feminist organization that supports and uplifts the experiences and solutions of women with incarcerated loved ones.
Alesha is a prison abolitionist who believes that there is a very different, much more humane way to respond to the consequences of actions that hurt people. Having advocated for her own incarcerated loved one, Alesha brings the unique perspective of a directly impacted person.
Alesha works with incarcerated people and their families to make sure that their rights are upheld while simultaneously pushing for the abolition of the U.S. carceral system. Alesha's intimate experiences with the system keep her grounded in the knowledge that prisons look very different on the inside than they do on the outside and that there is deliberate, egregious abuse inside those walls daily.
